technics turntables belts
I would like to purchase some CD turntables and mixer – ideally the whole console. What would you recommend?
I don’t have a huge budget but I don’t want a pair of equivalent belt drive decks that have loads of flaws. I just want the best deal out there without spending astronomical amounts. Thanks in advance… (please don’t advise on record decks as I have Technics but need CD decks but don’t know where to start.)
Oh and it must be able to scratch and do everything a record turntable can do…
Budget is everything. Since it is limited, most Pioneer units will be a little on the high end. The industry standard at the vast majority of clubs in NJ/NY/Vegas/Miami and beyond have Pioneer CDJ-1000s. These retail over 1k per unit. Even the CDJ400 which are the lower end versions of pioneer’s vinyl emulating decks are around 700 each.
Besides DJing for clubs and lounges, I also have an entertainment company and I have had the luxury of owning a bunch of different set-ups and still own a few different pairs. In my opinion, Numark may make some extremely affordable decks, but the sound quality is sub-par, and they really won’t stand the test of time. I love my pioneers, but unless you have about 2k and are willing to purchase these used, you really won’t find a pair of CDJ1000s with a mixer and coffin.

Space is also an issue as well, if you’re looking for something compact and still can emulate vinyl and doesn’t sound too bad, your alternative is Denon. I have a coffin with the DN-S1000 and a denon mixer and used, you can probably find these systems less than 1000. I paid 500 for mine, but I got it at a steal. These are made better than most other brands, extremely easy to carry around, and they also integrate well with Serato, which is a whole different ball game.
